Os lotes mais caros vendidos nos leilões ao redor do mundo em fevereiro passado foram os mestres antigos, seguindo os calendários apresentados pelas casas de leilão.
Sete dos dez primeiros se enquadram nessa categoria; os três restantes eram obras contemporâneas notáveis por sua origem estelar, ou pelo menos por sua associação com celebridades. Isso inclui a única pintura conhecida criada pelos Beatles (que foi incluída na “Exceptional Sale” da Christie’s) e um estêncil raro de Banksy vendido da coleção de Elton John.

Os leilões de fevereiro geralmente não envolvem preços elevados como os esperados na temporada de maio. Ainda assim, havia obras intrigantes em oferta, com o valor mais alto chegando a US$ 3,4 milhões e o décimo lote atingindo US$ 1,1 milhão.
